Rules & Regulations

Material handling activities must be planned and carried out safely to reduce the risk of injury to personnel and damage to materials, stands or venue infrastructure. 

Safety Equipment and Inspection 

• Appropriate safety equipment must be used during material handling, including safety footwear, approved gloves and safety helmets where required. 

• Materials must be inspected before handling to identify sharp edges, dirt, contamination, unstable loads or other hazards. 

• Suitable grip points must be identified before materials are lifted, moved or repositioned. 

Loading and Unloading 

• Loading and unloading must be carried out using slow, secure movements. 

• Heavy or large materials should preferably be handled by two people or by using mechanical aids. 

• Loads above 25 kg should be handled using mechanical aids where feasible. 

• Manual lifting by two people must be properly coordinated. 

• Mechanical aids, such as forklifts or electric pallet trucks, must be used whenever feasible. 

• Load limits and braking system requirements must be followed when using mechanical handling equipment. 

• Workers using mechanical handling equipment must be adequately trained. 

Vehicle and Load Safety 

• Trucks or vehicles must be fully stopped before loading or unloading starts. 

• The handbrake must be used. 

• Loads must be secured against accidental movement. 

• A safe distance must be maintained from areas where materials could fall. 

• Materials should only be unsecured and arranged into accessible positions when the load is being moved. 

• Climbing on or over materials is strictly prohibited. 

Fall Prevention and Drop Zones 

• Safety zones must be established where necessary to prevent falls and control access to areas where materials could fall. 

• Workers must remain at a safe distance around mobile platform trucks to avoid being struck. 

• Workers should only approach loads when the platform is at ground level. 

Stacking and Storage 

• Materials must be stacked in a stable manner and within safe height limits. 

• Stacking methods must prevent instability, collapse or accidental movement. 

• Appropriate auxiliary equipment, such as ladders or access equipment, must be used safely where needed during material handling activities.
