General Health and Safety Requirements 

The information in the Health and Safety section must be read and complied with by all exhibitors and their appointed contractors. 

GSMA and Fira Barcelona take their responsibility for maintaining an environment that is as safe as reasonably practicable very seriously. Creating and maintaining a safe Event environment is a collaborative effort involving the Organisers, exhibitors, suppliers and contractors. 

This section provides exhibitors and contractors with clear information to support their understanding and implementation of the Health and Safety requirements and procedures applicable to the Event. 

Applicability of Health and Safety Requirements 

The Health and Safety requirements that apply will depend on the activities being undertaken at the Event. 

All exhibitors must comply with the general Health and Safety requirements contained in this section. However, certain rules only apply where specific activities are carried out, such as stand construction, electrical work, work at height, use of access equipment, lifting operations or other work activities. 

Exhibitors occupying a standard Turnkey Package stand who are not undertaking any construction, installation, modification or other work activities may find that some requirements in this section are not applicable to them. 

Exhibitors are responsible for reviewing and complying with the Health and Safety requirements relevant to their stand, activities and appointed contractors. 

Exhibitor Responsibilities 

Employer duties are not reduced when exhibiting at the Event. All applicable Health and Safety at Work regulations must continue to be complied with. 

Exhibitors have a legal obligation to ensure that all applicable laws and regulations are followed by their staff, agents and contractors and to maintain a safe working environment within and around their stand space. 

Failure to do so may result in fines or prosecution. 

Exhibitors are legally responsible for any person working on their stand and for their actions or inactions. 

Contractor Competence and Documentation 

Exhibitors must ensure that all contractors appointed by them are competent and work in a safe manner. 

Exhibitors are advised to request copies of their contractors’ Health and Safety Policies. Where a contractor does not have such documentation, exhibitors are advised to request copies of the contractor’s public liability and employee insurance documents for reference. 

Exhibitors are advised not to appoint contractors that cannot provide the relevant documentation. 

Responsible Person on the Stand 

A person must be appointed to be responsible for Health and Safety matters on the stand.
